In my line of work, I regularly talk to people about their retirement plans - where and when they'd like to retire, but also how they'll make it happen. With us living longer, the romantisied version of retirement – out in your allotment, children and grandchildren doting on you, committing to your community – is, more often than not, simply not the reality. People see retirement as the third act of your life, but it's more of a significant change, than a denouement.
In a recent interview with Carolyn Wright, for Money Talks on RTHK, I shared some key advice for people approaching retirement:
It's never too late to plan - of course, earlier is better, but it's never too late
You need a retirement plan that's realistic and personalised to you. Other people have different situations, so you're never comparing like for like.
So, should people be spooked or scared by retirement? Listen to the interview below to find out.
